BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed has been kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore after his health condition deteriorated.

Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP Chairperson's media wing confirmed the matter citing Moudud's family Wednesday, reports Somoy News.

"His condition improved slightly after he was taken to the hospital's ICU in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon. Now he can move his body. His condition was gravely concerning yesterday," he said.

Moudud Ahmed's personal assistant Mominur Rahman Sujan said that water has been accumulating in the BNP leader's lungs for the last 12 days.

"Due to which the oxygen uptake in his lungs has completely decreased. Besides, his kidney complications have also appeared. He is scheduled to start kidney dialysis in the ICU," he added.

Moudud was admitted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on 2 February for advanced treatment. His wife Hasna Moudud is also in Singapore.

Earlier, he was admitted to Ever Care Hospital in Dhaka on 29 December after suffering a decrease in the amount of hemoglobin in his blood and chest pain.

A permanent pacemaker was implanted in his heart due to a blockage.

He was taken home from the hospital on 20 January but was admitted to the hospital again the next day.

Moudud Ahmed left the country on a Singapore Airlines flight on 2 February for advanced treatment.
