A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) to enhance mutual cooperation.

The MoU was signed by Md Firoz Salahuddin, secretary general of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and former Secretary to the Government, and Samsuddin Ahmed, director of the BMD on behalf of their respective organisations on Thursday in the conference room of BMD, reads a press release.

Dr Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal, NDC, senior secretary of the Ministry of Defense was present as the chief guest of the signing ceremony.

According to the Red Crescent Society, with the signing of this memorandum, the amount of damage caused by various natural disasters in the country will be reduced in future. Moreover, it will also play a role in socio-economic development.

One of the objectives of the MoU is to increase the scope and implementation of various activities conducted by the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society depending on the weather forecast, says the press release.

It may be mentioned that Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, as an auxiliary of the Government of Bangladesh, has been implementing forecasting-based financing projects in cyclone and flood prone areas of the country.
