Bhutanese king visits special economic zone in Kurigram

During the current visit of Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar, a memorandum of understanding was signed on 25 March between Bangladesh and Bhutan regarding the establishment of the proposed special economic zone under a government-to-government (G2G) framework

Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar stressed the need to prioritise building industrial establishments within the proposed Bhutanese Special Economic Zone in Kurigram taking into consideration local and regional needs.

He made the remark today (28 March) during his visit to the proposed site for the special economic zone in the northern district, as reported in a press release by the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza).

The Bhutanese king also said a business delegation from Bhutan would soon visit Bangladesh to gather information on investments.

Beza Executive Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun, along with senior officials, officials from the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and relevant representatives from the Kurigram district administration, were present at the time.

During the current visit of Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar, a memorandum of understanding was signed on 25 March between Bangladesh and Bhutan regarding the establishment of the proposed special economic zone under a government-to-government (G2G) framework.

According to the Beza press release, the Bhutanese king expressed satisfaction with the transportation system and port connectivity adjacent to the economic zone.

He assured that his government would take necessary actions to cooperate in establishing the economic zone. Additionally, he requested the executive chairman of Beza to expedite activities related to establishing the Bhutanese Special Economic Zone, as stated in the press release.

Beza proposed to establish the Bhutanese Special Economic Zone on 219.68 acres of land in the sadar upazila of Kurigram.
