The authorities of Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) distributed food relief to workers and the poor in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar, the country's largest economic zone in the Chattogram region.

The government run organisation distributed food support to 500 families, said a press statement issued on Sunday.

Paban Chowdhury, executive chairman of Beza handed over the food relief to the needy.

Due to the ongoing countrywide lockdown, there is very limited business activity in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar and many workers there have become jobless.

"To ease their suffering, Beza took the initiative to provide food to these people," said Paban Chowdhury.

"The relief work will gradually be extended to all other economic zones in the country," he added.

It should be noted here that Beza has distributed food relief to 7000 families across the country since the coronavirus pandemic hit the country last year.
