Bangladeshi Foysol Choudhury becomes Scottish MP

The Bangladeshi community in Scotland was overjoyed for the victory of Foysol Choudhury who was born in Habiganj of Bangladesh.

Foysol  Hossain Choudhury, a Bangladeshi-origin candidate has been elected as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) in Scotland for the first time.

The Scottish Parliamentary elections were held on Thursday. Foysol was elected from the Lothian area on behalf of the Scottish Labour Party.

The vote counting started one day after the election due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Returning Officer announced the results on Saturday night.

The Bangladeshi community in Scotland was overjoyed for the victory of Faisal Hossain who was born in Habiganj of Bangladesh.

Foysol Choudhury earlier contested in the Edinburgh Southwest constituency from the Labour Party in the Westminster parliamentary elections in 2017.

Foysol, who is a businessman also coordinated the 'Bangladeshis for Better Together Campaign' during the 2014 Scottish referendum.
