Bangladesh Police FPU leaves Dhaka to join Congo peacekeeping mission

A total of 180 members of the only Female Formed Police Unit (FPU) of Bangladesh Police have left for Congo to join the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).
The unit left for Kinshasa, the capital of Congo, on a chartered flight of Bangladesh Biman from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5am on Friday.
It has 15 commanding staff, including Deputy Commander Raunak Alam, Logistics Officer Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid, and Operations Officer Samrat Mohammad Abu Sufian.
Members of BANFPU-1 (Rotation-14), MONUSCO, DRC, led by Commander Marina Akhter will replace BANFPU-1 (Rotation-13), MONUSCO, DRC, led by Commander Salma Syed Polly.
The FPU has been serving in UN peacekeeping missions for the last 16 months with great efficiency and reputation amid the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2005, the FPU of Bangladesh Police was sent to MONUSCO peacekeeping mission. Since 2019, the officers of Bangladesh Police have been performing their duties in the mission with distinction as Individual Police Officers.
The FPU has been sent to the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2011.
