Bangladesh observing NRC situation: Foreign minister
AK Abdul Momen also said the NRC is purely India’s internal matter
Bangladesh is observing the situation centring the India’s National Register of Citizens (NRC), but it will not launch any diplomatic initiative regarding the matter, said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Sunday.
“When Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar visited Dhaka, we raised our concerns to him. In response, he said that the NRC is purely India’s internal matter and Bangladesh will not be affected by it,” the minister told reporters after attending an event at Dhaka Club.
“We want to believe the Indian foreign minister’s commitment on keeping Bangladesh unaffected by the NRC,” he further said.
Stating that there is no reason why a Bangladeshi should move to India, the foreign minister said that Bangladesh is doing much better and therefore it does not look like there is any interest for any Bangladeshi to move to India.
“In Bangladesh, even the per capita income is comparatively higher than the cost of living. There is no possibility of moving to India,” Momen said.
