Dhaka is set to host the 45th edition of the ICPC World Finals from 6 to 11 November 2022 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital.

A group of 11 representatives of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) core team have already arrived in Bangladesh for the preparation and successful organisation of the event.

The ICPC is organised every year for the younger generation, especially for university-level students.

A programme titled "Announcement of ICPC World Finals Dhaka' was held Tuesday at the BCC auditorium of the ICT Tower at Agargaon from where the name of Bangladesh was announced as the host country.

President of the ICPC Foundation Bill Poucher formally announced the name.

State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, chief guest at the event, said the prime minister announced the "Digital Bangladesh" programme 13 years back.

"We have started teaching a coding programme from primary school level. We are working to build a knowledge-based, innovative and modern Bangladesh," he said.

The University of Asia Pacific will host the competition while the Bangladesh Computer Council of the ICT Division is the executing agency of this event.

The ICPC is one of the most prestigious and reputable international competitions for solving computer programming problems. Baylor University in Texas, USA is the main initiator of the ICPC.

The ICPC Foundation currently hosts this international contest.

Bangladesh has been participating in this global contest since 1998. Bangladesh won the honour of being the Asia West regional champion last year.

ICPC is organised in eight regions of the world.

This year around 150 teams from 75 countries are going to take part in the final round of this contest. Over four hundred contestants will take part in 150 teams.

The organising authority expects the arrival of at least one thousand foreign guests, including officials, in addition to the contestants.
