The Bangladesh Police has received the Best Police Unit Award for its contribution to the United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Jeremiah Mamabolo, head of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (Unamid), conferred the award on November 19.

The Bangladesh Formed Police Unit (FPU) Rotation 11 was awarded for providing security to the Nyala Super Camp in South Darfur in Sudan and its commendable work on capacity building of Sudan's police.

"Commander of the FPU Mohammad Abdul Halim received the certificate," said Formed Police Unit Operations Officer and Additional Superintendent of Police Masuk Mia.

The Bangladesh FPU Rotation-11 started working at the Nyala Super Camp from May 25 this year.

Besides providing security to the camp, it contributed to the development of the local community. It also gave training on sewing and cooking to local girls.

In addition, the Bangladesh FPU organised free medical camps and distributed various educational materials among the local people.

Female members of the Bangladesh FPU gave 14 days of crowd management training to the female members of the Nyala police.
