Bangladesh Army has been given the responsibility to monitor two quarantine centres in the country.

The decision came on Thursday considering the feasibility and context of novel coronavirus transmission, said a press release issued by the Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).

The centres are Hajj Camp quarantine centre, adjacent to the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and the RAJUK Uttara Apartment Project Sector-18, located near Diarbari, Dhaka.

As part of this programme, passengers arriving from abroad will be handed over to the army at the airport after the immigration activities are done.

Under the overall supervision of the army, arrangements will be made to take passengers to the quarantine centres from airports. They will also ensure a complete digitalised entry and provide food, accommodation, testing and other ancillary services while staying at the quarantine centres.

In order to implement this programme, the army will be provided with support from the health ministry and other relevant ministries along with some agencies, and department forces.
