The High Court (HC) has directed the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA), an organisation of manpower exporters, to include three names in its final voter list for the upcoming elections due to be held on May.

The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman issued the order on Sunday.

After hearing two separate writ petitions filed by three people, including Ruhul Amin Swapan and Joynal Abedin, the court directed Baira authorities to include them in the voter list.

Senior counsel, Barristers Akhtar Imam and Rashna Imam stood for the writ petitions, while Advocate Abu Taleb represented Baira.

Barrister Rashna Imam told reporters that a separate writ petition has been filed to include 10 more people who have been dropped from the final voter list. The court may hear the writ petitions on Monday.
Baira elections are due to be held on 22 May. Monday is the last day for submitting nomination papers.

The final voter list for the elections was released on 8 April. According to the published list, 63 people have been made voters. However, several members, who were voters in previous elections, have been left out.
