“We want to give the ASI a chance to work in a good environment."

The assistant sub-inspector (ASI), who was assaulted by the officer-in-charge of Bamna Police Station in Barguna while foiling a human chain programme, has been withdrawn from the police station and attached to the Barguna police line.

Md Mofizul Islam, additional superintendent of Barguna police, has confirmed the matter.

The ASI said, "I was instructed by my superiors to join the police line last night. But I do not know why I have been attached to the police line."

In this regard, Md Mofizul Islam said, "We want to give the ASI a chance to work in a good environment. Right now, the working environment in Bamna is not in favour of him. So we have removed him from there and attached him to Barguna police line. He will be transferred somewhere else soon."

Earlier on Saturday, Md Elias Hossain, OC of Bamna Police Station, slapped the ASI on the face while on duty during a human chain progamme demanding the release of Shahedul Islam Sifat, who was arrested when Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed was killed by police in Cox's Bazar.
