Five days ago, Toa drowned in a canal near her home

Rescuers have recovered the body of six-year-old girl Ashamoni Toa, five days after she went missing in a canal in the capital's Kadamtali area.

Her body was pulled from the canal around 1:45pm Thursday, said Mizanur Rahman, a resident of the area.

Five days ago, Toa drowned in a canal near her home at around 4:30pm after she slipped into the canal. Unable to swim, she raised her hands and sought help.

But nobody could rescue her due to the heavy flow of water coupled with waste.

Officials of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the Dhaka South City Corporation, police and locals had relentlessly been trying to recover her body since she went missing.
