Another Rohingya killed in “gunfight”

Another Rohingya, accused in the murder case of Juba League leader Omar Faruk, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Cox’s Bazar.

The incident occurred near Jadimura of Teknaf Upazila on Sunday midnight.

The deceased Md Hasan was a resident of Jadimura Rohingya refugee camp.

“On information, a team of police led by Superintendent of Teknaf Police Station Rasel Ahmed, also an investigation officer of Faruk murder case, conducted a drive at around 1:30 am,” said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the miscreants opened fire forcing them to retaliate starting a 'gunfight', said the OC.

“The body of Hasan was recovered from the scene. He was taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.”

“Police recovered a shotgun, five cartridges and eight bullet shells from the spot,” he added.

According to him, three policemen were also injured in the incident.

Earlier on Saturday two Rohingyas from the same refugee camp, also accused in the murder of Omar Faruk, were killed in a 'gunfight'’.

On Thursday, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Faruk, president of Hnila Union Parishad Jubo League.
