Another person accused in the Tangail gang rape case, Rasel, 22, has given his confessional statement before a Tangail court.

He was arrested on Tuesday night and presented before the court on Wednesday noon. Senior Judicial Magistrate Farzana Hasnat recorded Russel's confessional statement.

Rasel is the son of Shukur Mahmud of Sondhapur Madhyapara area in Ghatail. Among the four people arrested over the incident, three have given confessional statements, and all four are in police custody.

Earlier on Tuesday, the senior judicial magistrate sent the three accused – Babul, Yusuf and Sujon to jail.

Ghatail Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Saiful Islam told The Business Standard, "Another accused named Rasel was produced before the court on Wednesday. Our drives will continue. All accused will be arrested as soon as possible."

On January 26, four schoolgirls from Ghatail upazila of Tangail decided to roam around. They went to the Jharka area around 1:30pm. There, two of their friends, Hridoy and Shahin joined them. They later went northwest of the army's firing range in the Satkua area on a battery-run auto rickshaw driven by a man named Ashik.

Around that time, 5-7 people surrounded them, beat up Hridoy, Shahin and Ashik and raped three of the schoolgirls. The attackers refrained from raping one of the schoolgirls because she looked like the niece of one of the rapists.
