BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the government to allow the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia to go abroad on humanitarian grounds for better treatment, citing signs of post-Covid complications.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam made the call at a programme organised at the Gulshan office of the party chairperson this morning.

Khaleda Zia who was undergoing treatment at Evercare hospital in the capital recovered from Covid infection as a test report came negative today.

Fakhrul said Covid patients often develop post-Covid complications which sometimes take various turns.

"Khaleda Zia has developed some symptoms owing to her age, existing diseases, and also her imprisonment for more than two years, which is still in force," said Fakhrul.

Regarding the issues, most of the people of this country want her to be treated at a good hospital abroad, said Fakhrul, adding that she is being treated in a good hospital here but if she could be provided far better treatment at a hospital abroad.

On 5 May, the family members of Khaleda Zia filed a written application to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal seeking permission to take her abroad for treatment.
