A youth in Khulna, who was allegedly stabbed on Monday by his neighbour following a quarrel over the theft of his memory card, succumbed to his injuries in the Dhaka Medical College Hospital today.

The deceased was identified as Haibat Sheikh, 25, son of Abdus Sattar Sheikh, hailing from Padmabila village of Dighalia upazila.

Haibat's cousin Kamrul Islam said an altercation ensued on Monday night between Haibat and his neighbour Jasim over an alleged theft of a memory card from Haibat's cell phone by Jasim.

Jasim borrowed Haibat's mobile phone a few days back, but when he returned it to Haibat on Monday Haibat found his memory card missing from the phone, added Kamrul.

When Haibat asked Jasim about the memory card, a quarrel picked up between the duo. At one stage Jasim stabbed Haibat with a knife indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.

Local people caught Jasim and gave him a mass beating. Later, they handed him over to police.

Later, Haibat was taken to the Khulna Medical College Hospital. But as his condition deteriorated, he was referred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge of Dighalia Police Station Manas Ranjan Gosh said police arrested one in connection with the murder.
