Addition of submarines upgrades Bangladesh Navy to three-dimensional force
Under the leadership of prime minister, we have an undisputed right to a larger maritime area
Alongside the development of the country, Bangladesh Navy has elevated to the status of a three-dimensional naval force with the significant number of warships and addition of two submarines, said Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury, chief of naval staff, Bangladesh Navy.
The warships are equipped with maritime patrol aircraft, helicopters, and modern technology, he added - during his speech at the presidential parade of new officers of Midshipman 2017 B Batch and Direct Entry Officer (DEO) 2020 at Bangladesh Naval Academy in Chattogram on Wednesday, reads a statement from the ISPR.
"Under the leadership and direction of the prime minister, we have got the undisputed geographical right to a larger maritime area through peaceful settlement of maritime disputes with the neighbouring countries," said Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury.
He continued, "The importance and scope of work of the Bangladesh Navy has multiplied in protecting the sovereignty and maritime resources in the vast maritime region and in the implementation of the government's Blue-Economy project," reads the press release.
A total of 63 new officers, including 44 midshipmen of 2017 B batch and 29 DEOs of 2020 batch of Bangladesh Navy were commissioned at the event. This number also includes three female officers amongst them.
The chief of the naval staff expressed his hope that the new officers will use the knowledge acquired from the Naval Academy to build themselves as competent officers.
And he also expected that the newly commissioned officers will use their training in future to fulfill their responsibilities to national security and progress.
A limited number of military and civilian officials from the Chattogram Naval Area were present in the presidential parade, adds the statement.
