ACC director’s wife ‘commits suicide’

The death incident of wife of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Bansuri Muhammad Yousuf was a 'suicide', police suspected.

Tania Ishrat, Yousuf's wife, was mentally imbalanced, and she set fire on her body to commit suicide. She also attempted suicide before, said sources at the Uttara Police Station (East), quoting Ishrat's family members.

Yet, we are investigating the matter, sources added.

Ishrat, who got burned inside her house on Wednesday, succumbed to her injuries at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital this morning.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Uttara Zone Deputy Commissioner Nabid Kamal Shoibal said none of Ishrat'sfamily members accused anyone of her death.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, a fire broke out in ACC Director Yousuf's house at Section-6, Uttara. Ishrat sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the military hospital in the cantonment.

Later, the Uttara Fire Service received information that fire had broken out at a Section-6 house. A fire service team reached the spot.

But, the fire servicemen did not find any sign of fire inside the house, said Mithun Biswas, duty officer at Uttara Fire Service Control Room.

He also informed that the injured had already been taken to the hospital before the fire service team arrived at the spot.

However, Ishrat's body will be buried in the Banani graveyard this evening.
