Abul Khair’s lighter vessel carrying 1,250 tonnes cement clinker sinks in Bay

The vessel bound for Munshiganj from Chattogram port sank at around 11:30 am on Monday in the midst of bad weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal

A lighter vessel of the Abul Khair group, carrying 1,250 tonnes of cement clinker, sank three nautical mile away from Bhashan Char under Noakhali district on Monday.

The MV 2 vessel bound for Munshiganj from Chattogram port sank at around 11:30 am on Monday in the midst of bad weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal.  However, the 13 sailors of the vessel were rescued. 

Md Selim, deputy director of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) said that a leak developed in the bottom of the vessel due to swelling waves in the sea. The owner of the vessel has been asked to salvage the vessel from the sea.
