Police have rescued a newborn baby girl from WASA intersection in Chattogram after getting a call on emergency hotline number 999 on early Saturday morning.

"A youth named Mamun made the call informing about a child lying on the footpath," said Md Alamgir, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar police station, confirming the matter.

"I myself went there and rescued the baby. Later she was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital," he added. "The baby is out of danger now."

The police are looking into CCTV footage to find out who abandoned the child, which seemed to be just born, he further informed.

Md Alamgir also rescued another newborn from Colonel Hat dustbin of the port city back in 2017 and was praised for his work.
