9 organisations fined Tk5.8 lakh over violating environment norms

Nine organisations in Chattogram have been fined Tk5.8 lakh by the Department of Environment over their violation of the environment norms.

The department's Chattogram Divisional Director Md Moyazzem Hossain fined the nine organisations after a hearing in this regard at his office on Wednesday.

They were operating without renewing their clearance certificates, keeping the liquid waste refinery system ineffective and cutting hills, said Moktadir Hasan, an assistant director of the environment department.

He also said these organisations were fined under Section 7 of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act.

The organisations are Mohammadia Bricks from Lohagora, SS Green Shipbreaking and recycling from Sitakunda, four auto rice mills from Noakhali, Cox Bazar's Ocean Paradise Hotel and Resort, Shah Amanat Bricks and Choromba Bricks from Lohagora.
