8 hospitalised with fever after arriving from China

Eight passengers, who returned from the Coronavirus-struck Wuhan city of China today, have been taken to capital's Kurmitola General Hospital and Combined Military Hospital (CMH) with high fever. 

"314 Bangladeshis arrived from China on a Biman flight and eight of them were found having high body temperature after initial screening at the airport. Later they were rushed to the Kurmitola General Hospital," said Shahriar Shajjad, the health officer at Shahjalal International Airport.

Kurmitola General Hospital Director Brigadier Jamilur Reza told The Business Standard, "Seven Bangladeshis, who returned from Wuhan, have been taken to the hospital with fever and cough. They have been kept in isolation centre."

"Our team are ensuring their treatment with protective measures. We hope none of the patients will be diagnosed with coronavirus," he added.

A woman was taken to Combined Military Hospital with fever and cough.

Saliva of the eight patients will be collected and sent for test today, ASM Alamgir, principal scientific officer of iedcr.

Meanwhile, two more Bangladeshi citizens were not allowed to get on board the Dhaka-bound plane as they had high body temperature. So they were left at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport.

A charter flight of Biman Bangladesh arrived at Dhaka airport carrying 316 Bangladeshis, including 15 children, from the Coronavirus-struck Wuhan city of China.

A Boeing 777-300ER flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:55am (Bangladesh Time), said Dhaka airport Director AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan.

The coronavirus, believed to have originated late last year in a seafood market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan that was illegally selling wildlife, has spread to Chinese cities including Beijing and Shanghai, as well as the United States, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Australia, France, Canada and India.
