The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a special drive arrested 61 alleged fraudsters and members of the Agyan Party from different parts of the capital on Wednesday night.

Of the arrested people, 40 are Agyan Party members while 13 are fake DB members.

Agyan Party is a criminal group that steals valuables from people by making them unconscious in public through different means. This crime has been prevalent over the years.

Seven people were detained for making fake Rupees and Bangladeshi Taka, and another was arrested for forgery using the name of the inspector general of police.

“The operation was carried out to ensure the security of city dwellers ahead of Eid-ul-Adha,” said DB Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten in a press conference at the DMP media centre on Thursday.

He said law enforcers were tipped off that these criminals were about to commit various crimes before Eid.

“Then we conducted the drive and detained them. They will face legal action,” added Baten.
