The owner of illegal kiln ABM Bricks has been fined Tk20 lakh

The Department of Environment on Monday demolished six illegal tyre-burning factories and a brick kiln during an anti-pollution drive near the Aminbazar Power House.

Furthermore, the owner of illegal kiln ABM Bricks has been fined Tk20 lakh. Three lead-acid battery recycling factories were also demolished in Aminbazar's Modhumoti Model Town area the same day.

The mobile court of Executive Magistrate Kazi Tamzid Ahmed led the drives.

Speaking to The Business Standard, Tamzid said, "In today's drive, we demolished Pierson Green Well, Turag Pyrolysis, Green Wheel Pyrolysis, Modina Pyrolysis, Imon Pyrolysis and Alam Pyrolysis.

"We will gradually shut down and if needed, demolish all illegal factories involved in polluting the air."

Tyre pyrolysis process refers to turning waste tires into useful resources, such as fuel oil by burning tyres.

The pyrolysis process causes emissions of at least 16 harmful gasses such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen and methane. Meanwhile, illegal battery recycling factories break apart batteries to release harmful lead into the environment.
