5 policemen put on remand over yaba peddling

The arrested policemen reportedly tried to sell narcotics after seizing those from suspects

A Dhaka court today placed five policemen on a five-day remand in a case filed over narcotics peddling. 

Metropolitan Magistrate Kanak Barua passed the order while the arrestees were present before the court. 

The five arrested policemen are- constables of APBn-1 (Armed Police Battalion) Prashanto Mondol, Jahangir Alam, Md Rony, Shariful Islam and Masud Ahmed Miazi, assistant sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station. 

According to the case statement, four policemen seized 522 yaba tablets while they were on duty at Gulshan-Gudaraghat area on September 11. 

The policemen possessed the pills and planned to sell it instead of submitting the narcotics to their respective police stations. 

Abu Zafor, sub-inspector of APBn-1, informed concerned authorities after he found Constable Prashanto along with other police officers were preparing a packet of yaba for sale.

Police arrested the duo first and later three others after receiving more information. 

Abu Zafor also filed a case against the five policemen under Narcotics Control Act 2018 with the Uttara police station.
