4 die from electrocution as live wire falls in rainwater in Mirpur

Four people, including three of a family, died on Thursday night after being electrocuted as a live wire fell in rain water in Mirpur. 

The incident took place around 10pm in front of Commerce College in Mirpur. 

Locals said, five people were electrocuted in the area and were taken to Suhrawardy Hospital where the doctor on duty declared four of them dead. 

The bodies have been kept at Suhrawardy Hospital for now, said Deputy Commissioner of police Jashim Uddin Molla. 

Due to the heavy rainfall since Thursday evening, several areas of the capital, including Mirpur 10, Mirpur 11, Shyamoli, Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Purana Paltan, Gulistan, Old Dhaka, Bangshal Road, Bijoy Sarani, Eskaton, Farmgate and Tejgaon have been submerged.

Water has risen up to 5 metres, surpassing danger levels. 

Previously, during cyclone Sitrang last year, the water level reached a peak of 5.7 metres in Dhaka.
