The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has issued a show cause notice to four officers and employees for their failure to fulfill their duties and negligence to address the waterlogging in the New Market and Dhaka Education Board areas within 24 hours following the cessation of rainfall.

The officials are Mohammad Asgar, assistant chief waste management officer of the corporation; Mohammad Salim Mia, waste management officer; cleaning inspectors Mohammad Abdun Noor and Mohammad Sohail.

The Dhaka South officials were asked to come up with their replies within three days, said the notice issued today (24 September).

Several areas in the capital witnessed severe waterlogging as rainwater accumulated during six hours of continuous heavy showers on Thursday night.

Officials from the two city corporations in Dhaka say the delay in water drainage is primarily due to the inadequate drainage infrastructure in these areas, and city corporation workers are working to clear the accumulated water.
