A Dhaka court today sent four accused to jail after rejecting their bail pleas in connection with the attack on journalist Mostafizur Rahman Sumon during Dhaka city polls on February 1.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sattyabrato Shikder passed the order after the accused were produced before the court upon completion of their one-day remand today.

On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain granted the remand when police produced them before the court with 7-day remand plea.

On February 8, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained four men -- Alauddin, 26, Masud Mia, 20, Rasel Hossain, 35 and Apu Mia, 24, from different places of the capital.

Mostafizur Rahman Sumon is a crime reporter of online news portal Agami News.

On polls day, a group of supporters of an Awami League-nominated councillor candidate reportedly attacked Sumon in Mohammadpur, leaving him seriously injured.

He was first rushed to the Sikder Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he received six stitches.
