4 arrested over vandalising Bangabandhu's Sculpture: Home Minister

Four people, including madrassa students, have been detained over vandalising the under-construction sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Panch Rasta intersection in Kushtia district town.

Two of the arrestees are Abu Bakar and Nahid. They are students of a local madrassa, reports Somoy TV.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said that someone had given the order to vandalise the said sculpture. However, he did not mention the name of any perpetrator.

He said four people, including madrassa students Abu Bakar and Nahid, had been arrested in connection with the incident. "Details will be known after the investigation," he added. 

While speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat, He warned that no anarchy would be allowed in the country.

"It will be known after investigating whether the incident took place at the instigation of Hefazat leaders," he added.

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that action will be taken against whoever is found guilty.

He also noted that erecting sculpture does not mean worshipping it. "Sculpture means giving Bangabandhu a place in the heart."

He said the government will take measures for the safety of important sculptures in the country.
