37 out of 41 spans of Padma Bridge installed

 

Thirty-seven out of 41 spans of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge have been installed already.

As a result of this 5.55km of the main structure has become visible, said a press release from the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges on Thursday.

If the level of current in the river remains in the expected level, the rest four spans will be installed by mid-December, reads the press release.

The work prgoress of the main part of the bridge was around 91%, while progress in river training was 75%. The over all progress in the project was 82%.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader revelead these information at the 109th board meeting of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority on Thursday.

He joined the meeting in a video conference and unveiled the Bridges Division's yearly report on financial year 2019-2020.

At the meeting, he also said the work of boring and ring installation in a 2.5km-long tube of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel (Karnaphuli Tunnel), featuring two tubes, has been completed.

The boring work for the second tube will start by the second week of December.

The progress of work in the project is 60%.

Mohammed Belayet Hossain, secretary of Bridges Division, and other senior officials of the division were also conncted to the video conference.
