Most foreigners working at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant have been placed under self-isolation

More 329 people, including 177 foreigners, have been placed under home quarantine afresh in Pabna in 24 hours till Friday afternoon.

With this, the number of total quarantined people in the district jumped to 399.

All the 177 foreigners, put in home quarantine, were working in the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, said the civil surgeon office of the district.

Among the total 399 people staying in self-isolation, 279 are in Ishwardi, 22 in Pabna sadar, seven each in Atgharia, Bera, Faridpur and Suzanagar, four in Chatmohar and two in Vangura upazila.

Pabna Civil Surgeon Dr Mehedi Iqbal said 58 foreigners of the nuclear power plant construction site were in self-isolation till Thursday noon.

"All of them are Russian citizens working at Rooppur power plant," said the civil surgeon.

The physician said nearly 2,000 workers from different countries are working at the power plant. "Any foreigner who arrived in Pabna in the last two weeks have been placed under self-isolation."

Pabna sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Joynal abedin said they were trying to calm down panic buying in the district and monitoring fresh arrivals of foreign returnees.

"Mobile courts are being conducted to tackle overpricing in the market," he added.
