Mobile courts in Chattogram have fined 30 restaurants Tk52,000 in different areas for not following lockdown rules and government directives.
The district administration led by six executive magistrates conducted operations in different parts of the city on Sunday to enforce compliance with government directives.
During the drives, fines of Tk52,000 were imposed in 38 cases and 5,000 masks were distributed, said a Chattogram district administration press release.
According to the district administration, Executive Magistrate Mamunun Ahmed fined Tk5,700 and filed seven cases in Paslaiesh and Chandgao areas of the city. Executive Magistrate Mohammad Atiqur Rahaman with his mobile court in the city's Khulshi and Bayozid areas fined Tk6,000 and filed six cases.
Executive Magistrate Umar Faruq fined Tk15,300 in nine case and Executive Magistrate Fahmida Afroz fined Tk2,300 in three cases while Suriya Yesmin fined Tk18,000 in seven cases and Plabon Kumer Biswas fined Tk4,700 in six cases at EPZ and Bandar areas.
Executive Magistrate Umar Faruq said they had observed that some restaurant owners were doing business violating government directives during the lockdown in Chattogram city.
"As a result, we conducted drives in different areas of the city, especially in restaurants, and fined those who violated lockdown rules. Such drives will continue in future," he added.
