3 people, 2 organisations fined Tk9.4 lakh over violating environment norms

The Department of Environment in Chattogram on Monday fined Tk9.4 lakh to three individuals and two organisations over violation of the environmental norms.

The department's divisional director in Chattogram Moyazzem Hossain fined the organisations and individuals after a hearing in this regard at his office.

The organisations are Seagull Hotel of Cox's Bazar and Mack Corporation of Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram.

The individuals are Nirmal Kanti Das from Anwara upazila of Chattogram, Yunus Bhutto from Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar and Syed Nur from Sadar upazila of Cox's Bazar.

They were operating their businesses without renewing their clearance certificates, and filling up ponds and cutting hills.

They were fined under section 7 of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995.
