3 killed as truck overturns in Chattogram
The number of deaths in road crashes during the Eid holiday rush increased, despite a ban on inter-district bus operations due to the Covid-19 pandemic
Three people were killed and four others injured after a rice-laden truck turned turtle on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Shariful Islam, 45, Mohammad Sajib, 30 and Atiqur Rahman, 27 – all of them from Naogaon.
Quoting witnesses, police said the Chattogram-bound truck from Rangpur skidded off the road and overturned, leaving Shariful dead on the spot and six others injured.
The injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced Sajib and Atiqur dead.
Road accidents in Bangladesh
At least 468 people were killed and 507 others injured in 432 road accidents across the country last month, according to Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, a passengers' welfare platform.

At least 249 people were killed and 385 others were injured in 207 road crashes between May 6 and May 17, according to a report jointly prepared by the Green Club of Bangladesh and National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways.
