4 killed in Rangpur accident

Members of Police and Fire Service rescued the injured and rushed them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for treatment

At least four people were killed and nine others injured after a speeding truck hit two auto-rickshaws on the Rangpur-Dinajpur highway in Rangpur early this morning.  

The deceased were identified as Morzina Begum, 38, Ejaz Ali, 42, Ranjita Begum, 27 and Ripon Chandra, student at Carmichael College, said Sajedul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rangpur Sadar Kotwali Police Station. 

All the victims were the workers of Akij Bidi Factory except the student Ripon Chandra, The OC added.

Members of Police and Fire Service rescued the injured including the auto-rickshaws drivers and rushed them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for treatment. Bodies were also sent to the hospital for autopsy. 

Police seized the truck, however, driver and conductor managed to flee the scene, the OC confirmed. "All the victims were the residents of Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari district."
