Three people were killed in "crossfire" in three separate gunfights in Cox's Bazar on Thursday.

Among them, two suspected robbers were killed during gunfights with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Another suspected robber was killed in when two robber gangs were involved in a gunfight on the same day, according to the law enforcement agencies.

Major Robiul Islam, deputy-captain of RAB-15, said, "A robber named Jainal Abedin, 30, was killed in a crossfire in Kalamarchara union of Moheshkhali upazila during a gunfight."

"A team of RAB officials conducted a raid on Nonachari area around 7 pm on Thursday to arrest the criminals. But the criminals opened fire at the RAB officials, prompting them to fire back. Jainal's dead body with a gunshot wound was found after the incident."

Two criminals named Shahjahan and Absar were arrested from the spot. A firearm and three rounds of bullets were also recovered.

A Rohingya man named Abdul Karim, 38, was killed in a similar incident in the Tourist Park area of Teknaf upazila.

According to RAB officials, Karim was involved in robbery, drug smuggling and kidnapping. A locally-made gun, three rounds of bullet and 10,000 pieces of yaba pills were recovered from the spot.

Meanwhile, a robber kingpin named Anwar Hossen, 42, was killed in a crossfire during a gunfight between two groups of criminals in Chakaria upazila on Thursday midnight.

Habibur Rahman, officer in charge of Chakaria Police Station, said there are 17 cases filed with different police stations against Anwar.

Two separate cases have been filed in the gunfight incident, he added.
