3 killed in Cumilla road crash

Three passengers of a battery-run auto rickshaw were killed following head-on collision with a truck at the south corner of Palpara Bridge in Sadar upazila of Cumilla on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Helal Mia, 60, son of Ful Mia of Dumuria Chandpur area, Matin Mia, 65, son of Maqbool Hossain and Abdul Quader, 70, son of Foran Mia. Four others were injured in the crash.

According to the relatives, they were going to the Mainamati part of the Gomati river to catch fish.

After reaching near Palpara Bridge, the truck coming from the direction of Mainamati hit the vehicle, killing two of them on spot and one died while being taken to Dhaka.

All of the deceased were classmates and had gone to catch fish for recreation.

Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Anwarul Haque said the bodies of the deceased were recovered and the injured were sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
