Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan today said three construction companies of Japan took part in the tender process of the Bangabandhu Rail Bridge, to be constructed over the river Jamuna in parallel with the existing Bangabandhu Bridge.

"The selection process is now going on. The construction work will be given to those who will be first in the tender evaluation process," he told journalists after visiting the proposed site for the bridge on the east part of the Jamuna river here in the morning today.

The construction work of the bridge will be implemented from both sides - east and west - of the river, the minister said, adding the bridge will be constructed within four years from the starting date of the construction work.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the construction at the east part of the bridge before or after the inauguration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's the birth centenary celebration programme on March 17, 2020, he said.

Senior officials of Bangladesh Railway were present on the occasion.
