3-day transport strike begins in Sylhet  

Transport workers of Sylhet have started a three-day transport strike since Tuesday morning with a demand for opening stone extraction.

Following the strike, the road communication of Sylhet division with the rest of the country came to a halt this morning.

No bus left the Sylhet Central Bus Terminal today due to the strike. 

Meanwhile, CNG-run auto rickshaw workers are also on strike demanding the cancellation of police directives for installing grills to auto rickshaws.  

Golam Hadi Saiful, president of the Sylhet Divisional Truck-Pickup-Covered Van Owners' Association and Sylhet District Truck Owners Group, said, "Truck owners are becoming destitute as stone extraction has stopped. Workers are becoming unemployed. We have long demanded for the opening of stone quarries through various programs. Finally, we were forced to call a strike."

The transport workers also threatened for continuous strikes, if there is no outcome from their strike.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police BM Ashraf Ullah, said "Legal action would be taken against transport workers if anybody creates chaos in the name of strike or obstructed the movement of people."
