3 arrested over arson attacks in city

Detectives in a drive arrested three people from the capital's Paltan area early Saturday in connection with arson attacks on 12 November.

The arrestees are -- Md Leon Haque, 30, Kazi Rezaul Haque Babu alias Jim Babu, 28, and Mohammad Azad, 28.

The three arsonists, who had direct involvement in the attacks, were identified by analysing information obtained from local eyewitnesses and scrutinising video footage of electronic media reporters, said a press release.

Based on information, a team of the Detective Branch of police arrested them from the area, said the release.

On 12 November, eleven vehicles were torched in different parts of the capital including Motijheel and Paltan areas.

Sixteen cases were filed in different police stations of the capital in this connection.

 

According to the preliminary interrogation, some leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Jubo Dal and Swechchhasebak Dal staged a procession in front of the Naya Paltan BNP party office at 12:30 pm on 12 November.
