Two hundred and twenty four Bangladeshi expatriates have returned from Saudi Arabia on two flights in the afternoon and late night on Saturday.

With this, a total of 1,834 workers have returned from Saudi Arabia in the last 18 days.

Brac Migration Program provided emergency assistance, along with the Expatriate Welfare Desk.

"The workers returning from the country complained about how the agent and recruiting agencies would lure them with false hopes. But they faced many problems after reaching the country. Most of them did not get their salary and many others returned to Bangladesh within a few months. The ones who have returned are now worried about the future," Head of Brac Migration Program Shariful Hassan said.

"The stories behind why they returned is more or less the same. Almost everyone returned empty handed," he added.

According to the Expatriate Welfare Desk data, a total of 64,638 workers returned to the country in the last year.

Of them, 25,789 from Saudi Arabia, 15,389 from Malaysia, 6,117 from the UAE, 7,366 from Oman, 2,525 from Maldives, 2,012 from Qatar, 1,448 from Bahrain and 479 from Kuwait.
