21 more yaba traders surrendered in Cox’s Bazar

Twenty-one yaba traders have surrendered to the police in the second phase of the surrender programme arranged at Teknaf Government Degree College in Cox's Bazar on Monday.

Police Superintendent ABM Masum Hossain presided over the programme where Chattogram Range DIG Khandaker Golam Faruk was the chief guest.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Md Iqbal Hossain said, "They also surrendered 21,000 pieces of yaba tablets, 10 guns and 30 fresh cartridges."

Earlier on February 16 of last year, 102 yaba traders surrendered in the first phase of the programme. They are all in jail now. However, one of them died in jail. Teknaf police have already submitted charge sheet implicating the 101.

Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Pradeep Kumar Das, said, "The 'war' against drugs has been going on over past few years. As a result, the yaba business has declined. No drug dealer will be exempted. Drug trading will be stopped in this area at any cost."

This January, nine drug dealers have died in alleged gunfight with police, BGB and RAB members. Six of them are Rohingya refugees.
