Monirul Islam, manager of Star Kabab Dhanmondi, and Golam Rabbani, manager of Ghoroa Restaurant, have been awarded five days and two days of imprisonment respectively

A mobile court of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Thursday handed short terms of imprisonment to managers of two restaurants in Dhanmondi area for using harmful ingredients in making food.

Monirul Islam, manager of Star Kabab Dhanmondi, and Golam Rabbani, manager of Ghoroa Restaurant, have been awarded five days and two days of imprisonment respectively.

SM Shanta Nur Chowdhury, executive magistrate of Dhaka South, conducted the drive as part of its regular drive against food adulteration.

"As per the section-186 of penal code, the punitive measures have been taken for keeping both cooked and raw meat together in the refrigerator, using harmful oil, colour, and cooking food in an unhealthy environment," said Dhaka South Spokesman Uttam Kumar Roy.

Regular customers of these restaurants were disappointed after the drive revealed the fact that those restaurants were feeding them adulterated foods.

One of the old customers of Star Kabab said, "I used to love eating at Star Kabab; but I had no idea that they were using harmful oil and colour in preparing food. If I had known, I would never have bought any food from them."

"However, if they stop doing the malpractices and provide us with unadulterated food, I would consider them again," she added.
