Two people have been killed in a clash between two factions of the ruling party Awami League at a wedding ceremony in Barishal which also left five people injured.

The incident took place at around 11 am on Thursday at Saldi village of Uttar Ulania union in Mehendiganj upazila.

Mehendiganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam said, Dhulkhola Union Awami League president Kalam Bepari and union Jubo League convener Jamal Rari attended a local wedding.

Over previous enmity, the supporters of the groups locked into a fierce clash with sticks and bamboo, leaving one dead on the spot and several injured.

Among the injured, one Sattar Dhali died on the way to Barishal.

The matter will be investigated and appropriate legal action will be taken in the incident, police said.
