2 jailed, 7 fined for killing porcupine in Moulvibazar

A mobile court on Saturday night jailed two people andfined seven others for killing a porcupine in Moulvibazar's Barlekha upazila.

According to sources of mobile court, officials of the Forest Department detained nine indigenous people from Madhabkundu Ecopark area in theevening for killing the animal.

The detainees are Subol Bhumij, 25, Jogo Rabichandra, 25,Ukil Santal, 35, Budhu Santal, 26, OmeshSantal, 30, Ramesh Santal, 32, Kartik Santal, 35, Ram Santal, 30 and KrishnaSantal, 35.

On information, the mobile court led by upazila nirbahiofficer and executive magistrate Md Shamim Al Imran sentenced Subol Bhumij and JogoRabichandra to one month jail and fined seven others to TK 10,000 each forbreaching the Wildlife Conservation Act.
