2 Bangladeshi women elected as councillors in Australia

For the first time, two Bangladesh-origin women have been elected as councillors in Australia.

They are - Sabrin Farooqui of the Labor Party and Sajeda Akter Sanjida of the Liberal Party.

Some 30 Bangladeshis contested this year's state council elections. Of them four are female candidates.

The elections were held in 124 city councils in the state of New South Wales on 4 December.
