2 arrested for damaging submarine cable in Patuakhali

Police arrested two persons on Monday for allegedly damaging a portion of the country's second submarine cable in Patuakhali.

The arrestees are Hossain Mollah, brother of Kuakata municipality mayor and Abul Hossain, a soil trader, reported Jugantor.

Earlier, Harun or Rashid, security guard of the landing station filed a case against eight people mentioning the name of five with Mohipur Police Station over the incident.

On Sunday morning, the cable's power supply line was damaged by an excavator during a construction work in Kuakata, resulting in suffering of the internet users across the country due to slow connectivity.

Internet services came to normalcy as the connectivity with the second submarine cable (SEA-ME-WE-5) was restored in the early hours of Monday.
