2 AL leaders arrested for killing students during movement
The arrestees are Rana alias Pistol Rana, vice-president of ward number-2 of Khilgaon Thana AL and Tajul Islam, former president of Sramik League, ward number-1 of the same thana
The police yesterday (1 October) arrested two leaders of Awami League and its associate body Shramik League from the city's Khilgaon area for their alleged involvement in an attack on a procession during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 4 August.
The arrestees are Rana alias Pistol Rana, vice-president of ward number-2 of Khilgaon Thana AL and Tajul Islam, former president of Sramik League, ward number-1 of the same thana.
Md Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (DC) Media and Public Relations wing of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told the journalists that they were arrested by Khilgaon police yesterday night.
Police said the arrested persons along with their accomplices attacked on a procession of students' movement in front of Malibagh community centre on 4 August. A student named Sabbir Hossain was injured in the attack and taken to Mugda Medical College and Hospital. He was later released from the hospital after treatment.
A case was registered with Khilgaon Police Station on 10 September in this connection.
Police later arrested Rana and Tajul after scrutinising the video footage of the area.
Both the arrested persons were sent to the court for necessary legal action.
