The Armed Police Battalion (APBN) arrested 16 Rohingya men from Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar on Saturday, suspecting them to be involved in a recent clash between two groups of Rohingyas in Kutupalong refugee camp.

Some firearms and locally made weapons were recovered from their possession.

Md Hemayetur Rahman, commanding officer of APBN-16 of Cox's Bazar, said they were arrested at different times of the day from Balukhali and Sonar Para check posts.

"During preliminary questioning, the detainees admitted their involvement in the clash and revealed that they were fleeing the area to avoid arrest in a case filed over the incident," said Hemayet.

In the morning, four Rohingyas were held along with four machetes at Balukhali check post.

Later, APBN members arrested 12 more Rohingyas from the Sonar Para check post, along with firearms, he explained.

The detainees were identified as Ziaur Rahman, 30; Md Usman, 30; Syed Ullah, 28; Md Rafique, 30; Ejajul Haque, 60; Rahmat Ullah, 29; Sona Miya, 21; Rashid Ullah, 15, Yaser, 21; Usman 21; Ismail, 16; Kabir Ahmed, 40; Sultan Ahmed, 40; Aiyub Salam, 25; Abul Quasem, 18; and Md Rafique Ullah, 30.

They all were shown arrested in the case that was filed and handed over to Ukhiya Police Station.
